Shirley Temple: Cheers To You!
by mitzimsa on February 24, 2014
Shirley Temple: The Women & Her Drink:
Right to this day when I’m out on the town and not partaking in sprit’s I order a Shirley Temple. Some adjustment have been made from the original mocktail as there is a cocktail that also bares the name. Either way it tickles my fancy weather the original or modern recipes.
As a child, one sip of this girly drink and I would tie on my tap shoes and do a perfect number. My mom would laugh out loud as she encouraged me to keep going!
Through the years, many travels and a hell of a lot of Shirley Temple’s who would have guessed that I would end up working in a place that the Butler and Chef worked at the famous Chasen’s Restaurant. Chasen’s is where Hollywood dined in it’s prime and where the Shirley Temple was concocted. History says that Miss Temple was out one
night at dinner with her parents, her parents ordered Old Fashions before dinner. Shirley was quite upset that she didn’t have a special drink before dinner so right there on the spot the Shirley Temple was born.
Any who, now I’m all grown up and working for Mr. Television himself…. and not afraid to say I have had a whril or two with the Big Girl’s Shirley Temple…The Dirty Shirley! One day the Butler over-heard me refer to my favorite girly drink, he turned to me ever so slightly and gave a big smile. When he returned he was holding a pretty little drink with maraschino cherries on a silver tray. Since it was a day that we had visitors in the office be had on his white gloves which made this even more special! I will say it was one darn good Shirley Temple! I’m quite upset with myself that I never had him pour me a Dirty Shirley because he proved with the original that it wasn’t his first swirl with a swizzle stick.
SHIRLEY AND ME
Even though I never had the pleasure of meeting Shirley, like most I feel as if I knew her. Not that it matters much but I find it a bit ironic that I’ve been chaseing Shirly every since I was a child from watching her movies, tapping my toes, drinking her namesake drinks and several associations through six degrees of speeration. Now, working on the movie lot that she helped save through her movies while the country was still in the great depression.
So ladies, if your keeping it classy in the middle of the day, you can never go wrong with a Shirley Temple but, don’t be afarid after dark to let loose and get Dirty or Double Dirty with Shirley!

Mammy Two Shoes: Cartoon Black History
by mitzimsa on February 17, 2014
YES MAM…IT’S MAYHEM
Mammy Two Shoes: She’s a heavy-set middle-aged black women who puts up with Tom and Jerry’s mayhem. Mammy Two Shoes appeared in 18 episodes of the cartoon from 1935 – 1952. The voice was forever present but all of her that was ever seen was her shoes, hence the name Mammy Two Shoes. Lillian Randolph the original voice of Mammy Two Shoes was never credited in the on screen credits of the originals.
Mammy was portrayed as the maid of a house where there was no clue of the owners. Later it was suggested by dialog and behavior that she was the owner. Still all that was seen where the shoes (Ugh). It was said that Mammy Two Shoes face was deliberately hidden and that the lower half of her body was shown as not to distract attention from the main stars of the cartoon, Tom and Jerry. There were instances that the chin of the black maid appeared, in the Episode “Part Time Pal” the last shot of the film showed Mammy Two Shoes far in the distance running after Tom but viewers were unable to see her features clearly. In one episode it is revealed that Mammy wears a bandana (what a surprise considering that most black female cartoon characters of the era were portrayed in this manner). In the Episode “A Mouse in the House” you see the back of her head while checking in on the cats. In return she gets her butt slapped with a frying pan and shovel by the cats. Also in “A Mouse Cleaning” you’ll see her complete body in a shadow as she walks down the street wearing a hat with a flower.
In the 1950’s the Episode “Saturday Evening Puss” her whole body is shown including her face. The only reason for her face being shown was…after a viewer saw the cartoon she inquired as to why the maids face was never shown. In her inquiry she wrote “It gave me the impression that the operator in the booth must be having some sort of party, since every time the maid came on the screen the only thing I could see was her feet. My curiosity is killing me. Before I go stark, raving mad, please tell me what she looks like.” This inquiry promoted the studio to have an artist draw a special head of the maid to accompany the reply to the inquiry. This was all explained by Fred Quimby in an article published in 1951 in The Hollywood Reporter.
WILL THE REAL MAMMY STAND UP?
In the early 50’s Mammy became a supporting character and was just as important as the main characters. However she was also forced to retire due to the Supreme Court declaring racisms unconstitutional. This took a great affect on Hollywood movies and cartoons. The new law pressured MGM to reissue the cartoons with Mammy Two Shoes appearing in them. Humm, that’s when the White Mammy Two-Shoes was created for CBS’s airing of these cartoons. By taking the old animation artwork and retracing, repainting the original pencil animation and photographing it against recreated backgrounds BAM! the new White Mammy material replaced the original Black Mammy footage. June Foray was brought in to redub the voice soundtracks with an Irish accent, and that was a WRAP! In the newer episodes with the caucasian Mammy, she’s explicitly called “Mrs. Two Shoes”, now that’s a kick in the pants!
Thanks to Turner some old original episodes have been aired on Cartoon Network. Before airing, the episodes were redubbed with a black woman’s voice as well as correcting the grammar. There’s been talk that the WB might release all of the Tom and Jerry cartoons on DVD. It would be nice to see and hear Lillian’s original work!

SPARKS FLYING HIGH IN LA!!
by mitzimsa on February 6, 2014
Sparks Have the Magic Touch
The Los Angeles Sparks is one of the four original WNBA franchises left. As well as being one of the WNBA’s best teams, They’ve won titles in 2001 and 2002 and also made it to the playoffs five times in the past six seasons. But, despite their record, in December Paula Madison former owner of the Los Angeles Sparks informed the league that she would no longer be able to run the team. She stated since taking over the franchise in 2007, she and her family have lost $12 million and an additional $1.4 million this past season. Laurel Richie, WNBA president had no idea or warning, the news just came out of the blue “You should look for new owners” said Paula Madison. It looked like the team would be leaving Los Angeles until the big announcement came at the eleventh hour.
SPARKS IT’S SHOW TIME!
Magic and Mark Walter are a part of the group of investors that brought the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012 and have decided to sprinkle that magic dust on the WNBA Los Angeles Sparks. The Sparks will continue to call home the Staples Center along with the Clippers and Lakers. The new owner ship is very optimistic and hope that the fans will be as well. The team management Ross and Toler will be reinstated and no changes will be made until after the season beginning in May 2014.
We all know that Magic is very knowledgeable about the game of basketball and has proven himself to be a successful business man so let the sparks fly high and the stars shine bright Magic is back into Los Angeles basketball!
Bacon Wave As Seen On TV
by mitzimsa on February 5, 2014
BACON WAVE IT REALLY WORKS!

I received the Bacon Wave from a co-worker over the holiday. He knew that I was a bacon lover by the fact that I would usually bring in bacon every morning to warm in the microwave for breakfast. I recently stopped my normal practice due to the aroma traveling throughout the building and calling everyone to the kitchen to see who was stinking up the air with the bacon goodness! To be truthful I started to feel guilty that I did not have enough to offer to everyone.
I was so surprise when I was presented with the Bacon Wave but could not help to think that there was a hidden message or maybe it was just my guilt taking over once again. Any who, it’s now weeks later and I decided to give a whirl.
Bacon Cooked To Perfection
The Bacon Wave holds an entire pound of bacon and is quite easy to use, just stand each slice of bacon up in the slots once you have all the bacon in the slots that you wish to cook thread the two skewers through the bacon by sliding through the groves on each side which are meant to keep the bacon from crinkling up during cooking. The instructions do not suggest that you spray with non-stick cooking spray or cover with a napkin while cooking. I did both the previous mentioned because I like easy clean up and I defiantly don’t want grease splattered all over my microwave. I set the microwave on one minute for each slice that I had placed in the tray to cook. Upon opening the microwave I had perfectly crisp flat bacon as if I had cooked it on top of the stove with a weight. I give this As Seen On TV Bacon Wave Microwave Tray a golden star, it cooked the bacon to perfection. As well as held up to every claim of fame listed on the box.
Pink The Go To Shade Of 2014 – What’s Your Shade?
by mitzimsa on January 27, 2014
50 SHADES OF PINK!
- Pink Sophisticated Gown
- Pink Dreamy Gown
- Pink Coral Gown
Pink and it blings I’ll take one of everything! I was drooling at the mouth when I read that Vera Wang showcased wedding gowns in bright shades of pink at New York’s Bridal Fashion Week! Her inspiration for the wedding gowns she said is, “pink as sensual, seductive, dreamy, sophisticated, strong, and cool.” I’ve been thinking pink long before Vera Wang’s Wedding Collection. I know that pink of all shades is the go to color for 2014 but, I’ve worn every shade of pink including petal, peony, coral and rose which are the colors that Vera showcased, long before it graced the runways for designers 2014 collections.
PINK’S THROWING SHADE!
- Pink Peony
- Pink Rose
- Pink Coral
Vera worked the runway with traditional silhouettes like ball gowns and mermaid styles in different levels of fullness, she also did floral embellishments in silk faille, hand-draped tulle and let’s not forget a bridal gown favorite organza. If you dare to step to the alter in one of these gowns everyone will know you have arrived to say “I Do!”
I knew at some point we the people that drink, eat, and think pink would have our day but it looks like it’s are year! So fellas put a ring on it!

Remembering You!!
Time is passing ever so fast but in my heart it was as if you left me yesterday. Though my heart may be heavy I can bask in the sun of your loving memory. This is the day that was chosen for you to have life. Valentines Day the sweetest and loving day of the year was when he chose to bring your warm and loving spirit back home for your reward of a job well done.
Remembering: Today the memories that are in my mind and bring a smile to my face, are a few of the many wonderful moments that I cherish because they belong to you and I!
Remembering: After winter the sun would come out on one side of the street, you would say. I’d put on my swim suit to go out and play…I still hear you calling me in! “Mitzi Lynn, get in here and put on your clothes and get a coat”. You’d be proud to know that now I just grab my shades, they work for all type of weather! (smiling)
Remembering Your Wisdom
Remembering: The life long lessons which serve me daily. I’m thankful. The situation is what it is, roll with it and make the best of it. There’s beauty and joy in all, enjoy it and always look for what makes you happy then do it! The bestest…that’s what you were!!!
So, today I spent the day with thoughts of you running through my mind, with a big smile on my lips and a sparkle in my eyes. Just remembering you on the day of your birth. In your honor I sent those pink balloons sorrowing your way, they may have had a long road to travel but I believe so I know you received!!
Smooches!!!
