Coffee Mate…You’ve Come A Long Way Baby!

Coffee Mate…Makes Coffee Time Anytime!

I’m one of those people that makes my coffee like dessert some time with liquor depending on the time of day! I must say I’ve developed a bit of a sweet tooth in my old age. My absolute favorite coffee cream was Caramel Macchiato, that is until I fell in love at first taste with the… Coffee Mate Natural Bliss Caramel and Sweet Cream! If sweet is not your thing give your cup a swirl of Vanilla, trust all three will defiantly turn that cup of coffee up a notch! I drink coffee morning, noon and night so I’m always looking for some crazy concoction. That’s the search which led me to the web site, only to find out that recipes are in development. I’ll be sure to check back soon because I know they’ll be the cat’s meow!
What I did find out on the web site… is that all three of these products are Kosher, Gluten Free and have no Trans Fat, in other words this product is great for everyone that has stomach problems, watching their fat intake and are lactose intolerant. All three of these issues seem to be a common concern for my age bracket!
Coffee Mate Iced Coffee Milk Shake

The 32oz bottle is the only way to go in my house, I guess you could call us coffee cream snobs. Since it’s arrival my grandchildren must have Natural Bliss for their Saturday Morning hot cereal. Also a day at Honey’s house would not be complete without their PG Rated Iced Coffee Milk Shake (Ice Cubes, Natural Bliss, Sugar Water and a Splash of Coffee mixed in the blender) poured into tall glass add whip cream and sometime a cherry on top, insert straw and it won’t be long before I hear “Honey, this sure is good!”
Thanks Nestle, you’ve made my cup of coffee like a visit with my best friend and sometime a play date!

Medical Adventure: The Path To Success…

Medical Adventure: The Path To Success!
So if you were interested in where I’ve been my family life needed me more than my passion. A few weeks ago I wrote an essay that discussed a medical journey that I would be going on with my husband. Well The Medical Adventure has begun, while we take this journey I’m sure my post will become a series of post that reflect the different turns we take to succeed.
Seems so long ago that we walked down the aisle and at the same time like it was just yesterday, if ya know what I mean. We’ve basked in the sunshine and walked through the fire and rain. In spite of it all we have remained side by side. It took a hella lot of work to get here but here we are. I laugh when I think about the day we mate and all the fun times we’ve had thus far…
Anyhow as we moved through life my husband has honestly learned that I’m his ride or die chick, for real! At the start of a marriage you can easily say “I’m down” because your head is in the clouds. As the marriage goes along the real world steps in and you have to overcome challenges together. Now ya’ll know Men Are From Mars! It gets so real that you have to remember to continue to love each other especially on the days that you don’t even like one another, this will happen from time to time.
We as women show are love in so many ways and often feel like we’re being pulled to the call of duty more often than are partner but we both have are responsibilities in the union and throughout the glory shifts.
So after many years of being together and going through many ups and downs life has thrown us another curve ball and once again I’m ready to step up to the plate and knock it out the park.
While I’m becoming an all star of the medical business my husband now professes his love to the world every chance he gets, loll. Recently when he was coming from under anathisa after a medical procedure, I’m told he gave his recovery nurse TMI. More information than any would every want to know about me! The nurse called for me to assist with waking him because honey he was telling it allllll!
Well as I said I’m sure you’ll hear more from me on this subject as we move through all the bumps, twist and turns on this journey.

Hair: I’m Happy To Be Naturally Nappy…
by mitzimsa on August 12, 2013
HAIR: HAPPY TO BE NATURALLY NAPPY
Hair, my crown of glory! About 15 year ago I left the creamy crack alone and pick up the pressing comb. Right back where I started as a child every Saturday morning sitting in Midge’s chair jumping and shrugging my shoulders every time that hot comb came anywhere close to my head. This went on for about the next 11 years even though I stopped the jumping, shrugging and the name of the beautician changed. I was so tired of the weekly visit and some times twice in a week just to get my curls touched up.
Since I live in Los Angeles the city of long, bouncy, flowing hair, people here do hair check ratings according to the movement or the lack there of. You feel forced to keep your hair in picture perfect style. Even while at the beach it should have that perfectly windblown look. I always had a yearning to go natural and every time my hair was wet I could see the curl pattern that I would have if I were to go natural, I
envisioned myself with hair like Angie Stone or Jill Scott. I had done the big chop several times and the lower I went the more my hair resembled that of a new born baby. Little wisp and curls would form on my head without any product and to say the least my husband was in love with the style. But of course I would always sub come to the masses and start with the braids and weaves while I grew my hair out to go back to the pressing comb which is but another form of a perm, press perm to be exact.
While on my way to the shop one early morning (standing apt. 5:00 am) to get my weave whipped back into weavetastic shape, I thought back to my last visit and how much my hair had grown, this was truly all natural hair and if there was a time that I should venture back to the wild side it was NOW! I thought about how freeing it would be to be natural, no more visits to the salon on a weekly or by monthly basis depending on which style I was sporting at present, no more of the beautician or salon drama and we won’t even mention the mere fortune of money as well as my time that had been spent throughout my life. I could only thnk; awww just me and my hair at peace with one another (insert smile).
HAIR NATURAL & FREE
I laugh when I think back because I thought going natural would be a snap. I mean after all I had not used the creamy crack or a pressing comb in over 4 years. Well to my surprise there’s more to it than just letting it all hang loose. I soon found out that my hair was going to still need some tender loving care. I was going to either visit a salon once again on a regular or get busy with some research on the web to learn to do it myself. My transition had left me with a Angela Davis or I could say a Macy Gray, now there’s nothing wrong with a Afro but I repeat I live in Los Angeles and I wanted to have that 21st Century Afro. You know the one that has lots of bounce, movement and curls, curls, curls! I chose to do the latter, my research lead me to some very helpful spots like Curly Nikki, Natural Hair Rules and Entwine Couture which is an amazing product line that whipped my hair into shape. On one or more of these sites is where I became familiar with co-washing, moisture mask, coconut oil conditioners, rod sets, two strand twist, bantu-knot-outs and hair steamers. My collection of research also inspired a Pintrest Board (click below). http://www.pinterest.com/mitzimsadventur/happy-to-be-naturally-nappy/
I’m still not where I want to be in my natural hair glory and throughout this transition I’ve had some crazy days but I can say that I’ve learned a few tricks to stop the breakage, shrinkage and my hair is starting to show signs of being trained. Now about this gray!
Taste Of Summer Smells So Sweet!
You can do some good eaten in the summer, this is when the fruit and veggies taste the way they should. Walking through the store you can smell the sweetness of the fruit as soon as you walk into the produce department our try feeding your eyes and soul while walking your local farmers market. Every chance I get I grab my recycled bags and off I go in search for a outdoor market to fill those bag with the best taste of summer I can find.
To me there’s nothing like biting into a fresh salad where the taste of lettuce, tomato, radishes and cucumbers take me back to my childhood. I remember the garden that my grandma had in her back yard and how people would stop by and share stories of their gardens giving’s, and how they were so kind to share their bounty as would my grandma.
Me Oh My! Preserving The Taste Of Summer…
As I got older my mother tested out her green thumb…that didn’t go so well as I recall. But baby! As long as there was summer and a abundance of fruits and vegetables my momma was a canning tootsie. She really became known around town for her preserving of summer. She had one rule, you must bring your jar back if you want a refill (guess the jars were expensive). People didn’t seem to mind bringing them jars back because I’m telling you the service porch counters stayed full with jars ready to fill with jams and jelly made from summer fruit and let me not forget to mention some of the other hot items like pickles and peppers along with corn (of course I’m from Iowa). She made a sweet fruit sauce that had chunks of fruit that we poured over homemade vanilla ice cream. People never wanted to forget that, they would drive back to get it if they did; it was yum yum yammers! Come to find out she soaked the fruit in some type of brown liquor, I’m telling y’all it was good!
I know I started off by saying that you can do some good eaten in the summer but now that I think about it a bountiful Summer also turned into some good winter eaten as well!
Do yourself a favor and enjoy the Tasty Flavors of Summer by supporting our farmers at your local Farmers Markets.
GUEST BLOGGER: Invite & Published Too!
Guest Blogging Already! Thanks to Kitty Bradshaw I publish my first article. I remember the day… I was sitting at my desk working right along and received an invitation to cover an event on her behalf since Kitty would not be in the Los Angeles area. This invite also extended an invitation to be a Guest Blogger for the one and only http:kittybradshaw.com. Talk about a sister throwin you a bone! This household brand was having an bi-coastal event launching a new product.

Well I came, I saw; I tasted, I listened and looked at all the event had to offer. Than I Twitted, Facebooked and Instagramed…even got some retweets and replies from the brand! Honey, I made a mad dash home, sit down at my computer and started to dance with my keyboard not wanting to leave out a single detail.

Trip Number ??… Everyone is an adventure!

Trip Number ??… Everyone is an adventure!
I’ve always said….
“I married an adventure and another trip is right around the corner”
Okay it’s been awhile, life has truly got in the way of my blog moving forward. I’ve tried and tried to set down and write to stay current with my post, but if it hasn’t been one thing it’s another.
Hubby had surgery and getting ready to start a life altering treatment. Me, I sprung my keen and the dentist found a hair line fracture in my tooth; no other choice I must be crowned! That may sound like a lot but it’s only the tip of this trip!
I can hardly believe that the trip (vacation) that I waited 2 years for and started preparing for about 3 months ago I can no longer take. This trip was not just any trip it’s to my home town for Iowa Daze 2013! Not only would I get to see most of my family but a lot of my school friends and my best friend ever will be on deck. This is the party no one wants to miss!
Even though my parents are both deceased I could stop by and pay respects in my own way. For my mother I’ll send up a bouquet of pink balloons tell her of all the new and exciting thing that have happen since we last spent time together. For Daddy, while listening to James Brown on my iPod I’d flip through pictures of the past when he was an Entertainment Promoter and James UHM, excuss me; Mr. Brown was one of his biggest promotions which I happen to introduce in front of all Des Moines.
Would make it a point to swing by with a bunch of pretty wrapped gifts as if it were Christmas to see a special women that was always a Mother to me. Even though she’s gotten a lil older and forgetful she ask about me from time to time (Ya, I’m Cheeseing)! I could hang with my sisters older and younger missing & loving them both. Pretty sure the big brother will be in town from Minneapolis maybe we could round up the younger brothers their children and grandbabies and do the picnic in the park on Sat. But it’s all a busted bubble now while I prepare for a bumpy road trip.
Where The Heart Is…
Oh well, you’ve got to do what ya got to do in this life! Right now my place is at
home with the hubby helping him walk through his journey, there’s no other place I’d rather be!
In fact I’m going on a trip of sorts I believe that venturing into new territory is somewhat symbolic of taking a trip. This medical journey will start out as a long summer vacation ( I’m sure there will be times I drift off to a nice exotic place). Then we’ll wait for the next stage of the trip, which will do us all good if were blessed with it being sooner than later.
Any who, I’m sure there will be more later but for now it’s good to sit and write!

Difficult Times & The Reality Of It All
by mitzimsa on July 8, 2013
Difficult Times: The Reality Of It All
I read something today that went a lil something like this…….
“Never forget these three types of people in your life”
1) People who help in difficult times
2) People who left in difficult times
3)People who put you through difficult times
Who Should Continue On In Your Life’s Journey???
I set down and thought about what I had read it made me start to think about the people that have been in and are now gone from my life. It also made me take a deeper look at who is in my life at present. See the gift that God has given me happens to be insight, (you do know that he gave
us all a gift?) seems I have a gift for helping people deal with difficult decisions and allowing them to learn and understand their role in the difficult situation. I’ve been told by many that I know and encounter that I tend to be able to read people like a book shortly after my first meeting. I pay close attention on how people treat people in general as well as people and possessions close to them. We as people spend so much time trying to make other people and situations into what we would want them to be or worrying about what we want people to think of us.
Now let me make this CLEAR…. I do or say nothing to hurt but to enlighten and make situations clear (always being the devil’s advocate). Since I find myself at the stage in life that allows me to not give a do-watt -ditty, I serve up reality straight from the hip; yes I do. See I’ve found over the years that people are not truly ready for the reality of it all. I just want people to look at things the way they are and not the way they would like for them to be.
My friends (which I can count on one hand like mama said… ummm maybe two!) have now learned when they want to run something by me, they let me know at the beginning of a conversation if they want me to be real with them or just listen to what they have to say. Nine times out of ten they call back
wanting to know the real and I’m willing to put on my horns and turn up the heat, remember it’s all done with LOVE!
XOXO

Toilet Paper: GIRL, IT HAS TO BE CHARMIN!……
by mitzimsa on May 31, 2013
Toilet Paper: GIRL, IT HAS TO BE CHARMIN!
What did you talk about today? Me, toilet paper Charmin to be exact. Now this may not be something that you want to talk about but to me, don’t nothing feel better than wipin your behind with toilet paper that leaves you feeling like you used a warm soft cloth. I love Charmin my favorite of all time is the Sensitive, honey it is so smooth….that’s because it has the Aloe & E in the mix but it’s hard to find a spot where they sell it in the Mega Roll *insert, stuck out lip* and that’s how we have to roll in my house. I tend to lean toward buying the soft but soft or strong works for me as long as it’s Charmin.
Well, that’s what a little lady and I spent about 15-20 minutes talking about on Aisle A48. See I was minded my own self business just out pickin up a few things for a friend when this nice voice from out of know where said “excuse me, is it on special does it say for how long?” I replied with the info. that she requested and the conversation just took off.
We discussed all the reasons that Charmin was the best toilet paper around. She explained to me how she preferred the soft over the strong and how Target always has great deals. We continued to stroll down the aisle looking at all the toilet paper choices and makin comments about each and every one.
CHARMIN FRESHMATES
When we came upon the Charmin Freshmates Flushable Wipes her eyes lit up and her voice rang with joy as she told me how nice they were and how her husband thought they were the “best thing since man went to the moon.” I was pleased to be able to give her the good news, “if you buy the 16 mega roll you’ll get the 40 count flushable for free.” That little lady smiled and ask if I could get down the toilet paper as she picked up her gift with purchase. She expressed how she wasn’t the type that would discuss toilet paper with a total stranger but that it was nice to talk to someone who felt the same way about Charmin as she did. It gave her comfort when I told her it was not a normal practice for me either.
As we walked our separate ways she chuckled as I smiled and she said, “What did you talk about today?” I think we were both quite tickled as we bid each other a good day!
Vintage: FASHION CHARM
by mitzimsa on May 29, 2013
As I travel down National Blvd. right before I get to Motor, I look over and see the most intriguing vintage boutique “My Baby Jo” if the name doesn’t get ya, what’s inside will. Once inside you get this feeling of old souls singing rockabilly and dancing to swing. This is one cool place lots of women’s reproductive vintage looking clothing and if you’re looking for men’s hats this place is worth a visit. After taking several laps around never looking at the same thing twice, I started to ask questions about the inventory.
To my surprise I hit the jack pot Darla! Darla happens to be owner of this vintage boutique along with her husband Isaiah who she met at a swing dance class in Pasadena Ca. which she shared with me after I expressed how much I LOVED LOVED LOVED her place. I could see that Darla is a talker like myself. She told me of her husband Isaiah growing up in the area of the boutique and that the building was a 1920’s Los Angeles firehouse. The firehouse was used in episodes of The Little Rascals, Laurel and Hardy and not to mention that the cross street Motor (cross street, it’s a LA thing) was the first paved road in West LA. The road ran from the MGM Studio to 20th Century Fox and was paved as told to her by Isaiah, “so the stars wouldn’t get their Duisenberg’s dusty” (today known as car, whip, ride).
I knew this place was special and had an old soul feeling! My Baby Jo lines their walls with new reproductions of vintage looking 40’s & 50’s clothing. They also have their own label to insure that customers receives the same value and quality of the long lost vintage era. If I wasn’t in Love when I walked in the door I definitely was once I saw that they carried Plus Size for a girl like me.
