Caramel Corn Recipe Gone Nutty!
This is the time of year that I carve one of my favorite things POPCORN! Don’t get me wrong I eat this light fluffy treat all year long but when Fall rolls around and it’s time for the Goblins and Goons to start knocking on the door my body screams for Caramel Corn either mixed with Cheddar Cheese to give me that signature Chicago Style taste or Crazy Nutty Caramel Corn. For the Crazy Corn just add a verity of nuts to any old everyday Caramel Corn Recipe, my mix consist of almonds, cashews and pecans. In my mind I’m a connoisseur of popcorn since I’m an Iowa Gal just living life in the California Sun. I start my Crazy Caramel Corn Recipe off with a basic Caramel Corn Recipe and modified to make it my own.
Ingredients
• 5 tablespoons peanut or canola oil
• 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
• 1/2 tablespoon sea salt
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1 cup butter (unsalted)
• 4 tablespoons light corn syrup
• ½ teaspoon baking soda
• Water, to cover
• 1/4 cup each almonds, cashews and pecans (unsalted or raw)
Directions
Heat oven to 250 and preparer a greased sheet pan and set aside.
In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat oil and kernels over high heat, uncovered, until first pop. Cover and shake until popping ceases. Sprinkle with salt and shake to distribute evenly. Measure 8 cups of popcorn, and reserve.
Place sugars, butter, corn syrup in a saucepan and add enough water to cover and mix well. Cook until caramelized and golden. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda until mixed well. Immediately pour mixture over the popcorn and nuts then stir until all coated.
Back at 250 for 15 minutes, stir bake an additional 15 minutes, stir and bake 5 more minutes. Immediately spread on foil or waxed paper and cool for 30 minutes. Once cooled break up slightly into nice size clumps.
Pop Corn Gone Cravy!
When I really want to get crazy I throw in additional ingredients, get creative with one or more of the ingredients below:
M&M’s, Pretzels Bits, Coconut Flakes, Mini Butterscotch, Marshmallows or Chocolate Chips. Heck I’ve even been known to throw all of these ingredients in a batch or two and top it off with a sprinkle of Cinnamon. My next quest will be to add Candied Bacon! Be adventurous and have fun with it remember its Crazy Nutty Caramel Corn.

Piggy Wiggy Collection!
Can I tell you how much I love my lil piggy, that’s my Joie Piggy Wiggy Collection! Joie makes an array of kitchen helpers such as sink strainers, grips, mini fry pans, spatulas an more. I personally fell for the Pink Pig Line due to my obsession with Ms. Piggy, Pork (Bacon) and Pink….yes I did say that! The pig that get’s a good work out in my kitchen is the Piggy Bacon Tray! (sky opens an ray of sun shines down)
I can’t tell a lie when I first saw this cutie, I bought it just because it represented all things I love. I always had a special way of cooking my bacon which was on top of the stove in a black iron skillet. Since I’m always up for trying something new I went for it.
On this day I declare I will never cook my bacon on top of the stove again, this lil pig cooks your bacon to perfection with a crunch that can wake the dead!
Besides the cuteness factor it offers easy clean up – the vented lid keeps all the splatters contained, grooved tray drains all the fat, keeps the bacon hot, it’s dishwasher safe and you can adjust the cooking time to accommodate the different bacon eaters in your home.
I do wish that it was little larger, it holds 4 pieces of the thick slice bacon but with a 3-5 minute cooking time it’s easy to pop in another batch. Unless you’re into scrubbing I would spray with a non-stick cooking spray and suggest that you clean in between each batch.
The tray can get a little warm during cooking time so I completed my set with the silicone heat resistant grip. I’m glad I did because I love hearing my husband holler from the kitchen “Honey where’s the piggy”
Who could ask for anything more?

Dunkin cookies around here is a normal every day occurrence, I have a lot of little grandchildren their model is ” what’s a cookie without milk ” (learned behavior from the grandpa). Me I’m not a fan due to the big mess that it makes from spilled glasses of milk which runs down the table to the floor or the after math of the stickiest fingers in town according to my calculation only! THE GREAT SHAKEOUT 2013 I’m ready, are you?
EarthQuake Preparedness: The Great ShakeOut began in Southern California in 2008 and has since spread to other states and other countries. Over here on the Fox Lot we take Earthquake Preparedness seriously we we hopped on the big shake down with the rest of Los Angeles that chose to participate in the 2013 Great Shakeout today. We joined 9 million fellow Californian’s that participated by Drop-Cover-Hold.
At 10:17 AM this morning we Dropped to the floor-took Cover under a sturdy piece of furniture such as our desk or a table, and Held in place for 60 seconds. That was it! This exercise is done on a annual basis to keep it fresh in our minds what we should do in case of an Earth Quack. We must be ready to react quickly and In order to do this we must practice. You may only have a few seconds to protect yourself in an earthquake, before the strong shaking knocks you down or something drops on you.
You never Know where You’ll Be…
Below are a few pointers that you should remember in case of an Earth Quack, 
Inside, a building, Drop, Cover and Hold On until the shaking stops
Outdoors, find a clear spot away from buildings, trees, streetlights and power lines and Drop, Cover and Hold until the shaking stops
Driving, pull over to a clear location, stop and stay in your car with your seatbelt fastened until the shaking stops. Proceed with caution and avoid bridges and ramps these structures many have been damaged during the quack.
The ground shaking of a earthquake is usually not the cause of injury. Most of the injuries and deaths are caused by collapsing walls and roofs, flying glass and falling objects. It is important that you move as little as possible to reach a safe place most of the time when people try to move more than a short distance is when injury occurs.
If you live in a earthquake prone region take a moments, look around identify a safe place and watch the video (link below) so that you can respond quickly in case the ground under you starts to shake!

Shame on you Shonda Rhimes and ABC for airing the last episode of season 2 two weeks ago, I’ve lost sleep waiting for tonight. Personally I will have to stay off the Twitter Feed until the West Coast viewing. It really angers me that those East Coasters will get the answer to some of my question before me. Funny thing my husband is just as excited he’s been keeping up with the Kerry Washington interviews on the talk shows just to hear any tid bits that he can about tonight’s airing. One of my co-workers has some inside scoop, he was teasing me this morning “Boy, how I wish I could give you a little insight on tonight’s show” My reply was “Didn’t your mama teach you that if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all, I was very offended by your comment”! Lolll

California Fashion Plate: Legacy License Plate

California Fashion Plate: It’s So LA!
Retro-styled plates are now being offered thanks to Assemblyman Mike Gatto’s Legacy License Plate bill. As of August 6, 2013 Assembly Transportation Committee passed CA Assembly Bill (AB) 1658. That’s the California Legacy License Plate Program. Mike’s bill will let drivers pick a vintage-style California license plate.
California’s Department of Motor Vehicles is selling them in three colors: yellow plates with black lettering (originally issued from 1956 to 1963), black with yellow lettering (1964 to 1969) and blue with yellow lettering (issued until 1982). The DMV is marketing to and banking on the classic car enthusiasts, to make the vintage plates fly! Apparently, among the enthusiast there was some concern that the plates would be flat painted plates. The DMV has confirmed that current law requires license plates to be reflectorized and modern manufacturing processes will not allow for an exact replication of the original plates. The final design of the Legacy plates are a little different from the actual antique plates you see around town. They will be reflective, not flat paint but they will have the stamped surface just like the old ones were along with the classic, no-nonsense layout.
California Goes Retro!
The DMV is accepting pre-orders in hopes to meet an important stipulation for specialty plates. Each of the three color options needs to have 7,500 preorders before the state will make them. They have until January 1, 2015 to reach the required minimum for any one of the plate styles. Only the black plate is even halfway there. Here’s the latest tally:
- Yellow plates: 1,213
- Black plates: 4,224
- Blue plates: 901
These Legacy License Plates would make any late-model car look a little chic. I’m so excited! As soon as I can decide on which one will look good on my Chevy HHR the DMV can have my $50 with a smile! Oh, by the way if you pre-order a plate today and the California Retro Plate program does not fly you will receive your refund after January 2015.

Ok so everybody already knows that I’m always looking for an adventure. I had become bored with the same old go out to dinner with another couple routine. When it comes to my husband if it’s not about getting a big meal then it don’t sound like fun. Me on the other hand, I like to have a good time, always have and always will. Just so you know I should buy this one again when it comes around because I don’t believe I hit a one but it was fun fun fun!

I was real excited when I saw the deal from Vista Print I paid $10.00 for $70.00 worth of items. First thing that came to mind “it’s time to order business card” logged on to their site and started designing the cards. Now I was thinking that with $70 to spend on Vista I could get a few more items so I continued to design tee, poster, post card and a magnet for my car. Honey, I thought I was going to really score with this one. Well when I got to the check out and found out that my wonderful design for cards was going to wipe out my entire budget, I was a little crushed to say the least but, let me tell you there was no disappointment when I received that little box of cards in the mail. They are as cute as I imagined! Even though I was only able to get the cards with my purchased deal, I’m a Winner! There so me!
